Welcome to The Hidden Taisteal
"If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten; Either write things worthy of reading; or do things worthy of writing." Benjamin Franklin, May 1738
Taisteal, the Scottish Gaelic word for journey. Everyone's journey is worth time to explain. Some keep journals. Some keep their journey internalized leaving just pieces of small clues for their descendants to gather so they may have a glimpse into what made their life. Locating traces is how our blog started.
This "taisteal" (journey) is a conduit to our roots from rugged Scottish ancestors who came to America in the late 1600's connecting to many other layers of generations. I chose a Scottish start as my parents are distant cousins stemming from the same indentured servant sent to the America's based off their dislike from England. Later, I will add my dear friend Danyle to this story as we are traveling sisters. Her Scottish roots will be discovered but for now our travels are blogged.
Typical genealogy research started the blog. Small delicate details creating numerous trails. Each trail blossomed into a need to know more about the person and their journey.
The second part of the blog describes our travels to locations connected in some part to our ancestors. Of course, it will take many posts to explain how each connects. Amazing how we locate a long ago forgotten connection to those around us. Simply amazing!
Follow us in our journey, our "Taisteal" exploring where our ancestors lived.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "The ancestor of every action is a thought." Here are ours.
XOXO Jen & Danyle
